This project presented a captivating transformation, where a pair of Victorian townhouses was elegantly re-purposed into a distinguished haven for scholars and local leaders. This stately structure serves as a welcoming portal for esteemed guests visiting the campus, a strategic hub for trustee meetings, and a dynamic space for various events. Inside, meticulous updates encompass refined offices and suites tailored to accommodate the university’s dignitaries during their short-term sojourns. Preservation efforts retained the charm of the historic Walnut Street façade, while the primary entrance was thoughtfully repositioned to the southern side, facing Locust Walk and offering full accessibility through a shared motor court. The renovation extended to a new roof, the restoration of original windows, and intricate decorative repairs, all meticulously preserving the building’s historical character. The addition of a new terracotta façade on the rear and east sides harmoniously complements the original brick structure. This multifaceted facility now proudly houses the prestigious Perry World House and the celebrated Kelly Writers House, emblematic of Penn’s commitment to fostering knowledge and creativity.
