McNeil Building

This project underwent a monumental renovation, preserving its historic charm while modernizing its core. A significant part of this transformation involved the meticulous removal of over half of the exterior façade and existing structure to extend the building by 6 feet in width and 3 feet in length, breathing new life into the structure. The remaining front section was thoughtfully preserved, stripped down to its exterior wall, and will receive a complete refurbishment, honoring its storied past. The project encountered several formidable challenges. First, the front section had to be securely supported during the demolition of the remaining area, necessitating the construction of a robust steel frame composed of 12-inch steel beams. Additionally, the steam station for the adjacent president’s house was located within our building, demanding uninterrupted operation throughout the construction process. The installation of new electric and chilled water services had to navigate through two neighboring properties. Stringent noise ordinances were upheld, and the project’s commitment to LEED Silver certification mandated careful sorting and separation of all construction waste.
