At the heart of this evolution is the Center Wing, a 6,200-square-foot haven within the hospital’s storied walls, now housing 15 inpatient hospice units delivering round-the-clock care. Operated by Respite, the main and northeast wings on this level extend their healing touch, providing essential medical care for unhoused individuals in the aftermath of hospitalization. With 20 beds and strategically designed spaces—including a laundry room, community area, and dining/pantry—the Respite facility is a sanctuary for recovery. The construction narrative unfolds with the precision of a well-crafted tale, involving the comprehensive demolition of over 18,700 square feet on the 5th floor. The upgrade extends beyond the visible, encompassing enhanced mechanical services tailored for each wing. This includes the installation of new ductwork, the modernization of AHUs (Air Handling Units), and the meticulous renovation of hot water and chilled water systems. This transformative project not only breathes new life into the physical space but also reaffirms the commitment to advancing healthcare with compassion and innovation.
