Penn Medicine
Widener Varian Ethos
Target Building successfully installed of a Varian Ethos radiation therapy system, replacing a decommissioned CyberKnife Unit within the basement of Pennsylvania Hospital’s Widener Building. The project also renovated the former equipment room into a new patient exam room, along with other support space upgrades. Working within an existing concrete radiation vault presented significant coordination challenges, including extremely limited ceiling clearances for radiation shielding and overhead MEP systems. Target Building carefully coordinated all building infrastructure to maximize available space while maintaining system clearances. Due to the substantial weight of the new equipment, temporary structural shoring was installed below the concrete slab to prevent deflection during installation. Through close collaboration with hospital facilities, equipment vendor, & rigging contractor, Target Building successfully managed the complex logistics, structural requirements, and equipment delivery, completing a technically demanding renovation with minimal disruption to hospital operations.
